Welcome to Koguma, a delightful café nestled in the heart of Sumida City, Tokyo. At 1 Chome-23-14 Higashimukojima, this charming establishment offers a unique culinary experience that transports you to a different world, reminiscent of the enchanting realms crafted by Hayao Miyazaki. Once a pharmacy from 1927, Koguma boasts an ambiance that combines nostalgia with comfort, making it an ideal retreat for both locals and tourists alike.

The moment you step inside, you're greeted by a peaceful atmosphere that feels almost spa-like, where time slows down, and you can truly savor life's simple pleasures. The soft lighting and retro decor work in perfect harmony, creating a cozy space perfect for unwinding with friends or catching up on work with a warm beverage in hand.

Koguma specializes in a variety of comforting dishes, with standout offerings that have left guests singing their praises. Notably, the omurice is a crowd favorite, showcasing a fluffy omelet enveloping a bed of flavorful rice. Customer Joshua Falk, an enthusiastic patron, described his experience as “super nice,” highlighting the vibrant taste and friendly service. For the spice lovers, the chickpea curry rice and ginger pork rice are must-try dishes that deliver warmth and satisfaction, according to a satisfied guest, Max M. The curry's spices dance on your palate, while the tender pork is perfectly marinated, delivering a comforting meal on a chilly winter’s day.

Do not forget to indulge in their excellent coffee and delightful cakes, which perfectly complement any meal. With reasonable prices and a menu that changes seasonally, there’s always something new to explore.

While enjoying your meal, take note that the café can sometimes get lively, particularly with groups capturing Instagram-worthy moments. However, customer Bea O notes that outside of peak times, the tranquility reigns supreme—perfect for a relaxing coffee break. For those less familiar with Japanese, Joshua suggests having a translator app handy to navigate the menu comfortably, ensuring that communication won’t deter you from a splendid culinary experience.

In summary, Koguma stands as a hidden gem in Tokyo's café scene, waiting to offer you a unique blend of traditional comfort food and an inviting atmosphere. Whether you're a local in search of a quiet spot or a traveler seeking to dive into Japan’s culinary wonders, Koguma promises to be a delightful addition to your itinerary. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy good food in a serene setting!

We were looking for a nice place to eat omurice and we found it! The host is super friendly and helpful, super nice service. The food was easily a 10/10, we all liked it alot and the atmosphere inside is really calm, almost like you’re at a spa (A good recommendation for tourists is to get your translator app ready, a little bit difficult with communication but it worked out good with google translate!)

An absolutely charming little café in an old apothecary, everything about Koguma feels like something out of Hayao Miyazaki's mind. The food, just fantastic; I had the chickpea curry rice, and my partner had the ginger pork rice, absolutely what the doctor ordered for a cold winter's day.

Really cute retro cafe! The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is peaceful. It’s a very relaxing place when it’s not full with giggling girls taking thousands of selfies for Instagram ;)

Visited this cafe yesterday. And, what a hidden gem it is!! The food and coffee were delicious, the atmosphere was very relaxed and the owner was lovely. It’s a converted pharmacy from 1927 and the whole place has a cosy old charm to it!! Highly recommend a visit!

Beautiful coffee shop & café in a 1920s pre-war pharmacy. It has now been converted into a comfortable place to enjoy a coffee break or a light lunch. The owner is very friendly and welcoming and the quality of the cakes and drinks is very high. Highly recommend to all who want to see a rare pre-war building and enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea
